Confirmation Preparation Program
A Two‑year Journey of Discipleship, Formation, and Encounter with the Holy Spirit
Our parish Confirmation Program is a two‑year process designed to help young people grow in faith, understand the Sacrament of Confirmation, and prepare to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit. Through catechesis, prayer, service, retreats, and parish life, candidates learn what it means to follow Christ as mature Catholics.

Year One: Foundations of Faith (7th Grade)
Focus: Understanding the Catholic faith, discovering personal identity in Christ, and building community.
Key Themes
- What Confirmation is and why it matters
- Learning about the Saints and choosing a Confirmation name
- Who the Holy Spirit is; Gifts & Fruits of the Spirit
- The dignity of the human person and beauty of the Catholic faith
- Salvation History and the Person of Jesus Christ
- Ten Commandments and the importance of Confession
- Virtues, manners, and living a life of grace
- Scripture study and sharing personal witness
- Service to family, parish, and community
- Selecting a Sponsor
- Prayer and spirituality
- Life of the Church: liturgical calendar, rituals, traditions
Retreat (Year One) Held within the first six months to help students bond as a Confirmation community. Focus: The Good News and how it applies to daily life.
Year Two: Deepening & Strengthening (8th Grade)
Focus: Understanding the Sacrament of Confirmation and living as a Spirit‑filled disciple.

- Connection between Baptism and Confirmation
- Grace as God’s freely given gift
- Effects of Confirmation:
- Outpouring of the Holy Spirit
- Strengthening of baptismal grace
- Increase of the Gifts of the Spirit
- Permanent seal of the Holy Spirit
- Life in the Holy Spirit: Gifts, Fruits, and indwelling
- Mortal sin, deadly sins, and the life of virtue
- Catholic Social Teaching (7 themes)
- Prayer, worship, reverence for the Sabbath
- Making faith a priority
- Vocation and discernment
- Ministries and service opportunities
- Preparing for the Bishop’s visit: address, dress, responses, and guidelines
Retreat (Year Two) Held shortly before Confirmation. Focus: Living out the grace of the Sacrament and putting the Gifts of the Spirit into action.
Mystagogical Formation (After Confirmation)
The Bishop recommends continued formation to help newly confirmed teens live out the grace they have received. Examples include:
- Studying the Acts of the Apostles
- Liturgical formation and ministry involvement
- Ongoing opportunities for witness, service, and prayer
