Mt 5:17-19

Jesus tells the crowds that he has no intention of abolishing the law rather to fulfill it. This particular Gospel passage is preceded by the Beatitudes, the heart of the Commandments and followed by the antitheses, “you have heard it said … but I say,” a reference to the deeper and true meaning of the law as God intends.

Your law, O God, is so much more than a list of do’s and don’ts. Your law is a law of love. It is life giving. Help me to understand and live it.
