Lk 10:38-42

Today on this memorial, there are optional accounts, one from John and the other from Luke, each giving insight into these sisters. No doubt they are friends of Jesus but what is most significant is how their faith, especially Martha’s develops. This is telling in John’s Gospel when Martha responds to Jesus’ question by saying, “I have come to believe … .”

It is by your grace that my belief, my faith grows and develops. It will never be full or perfect because I am not, but it is in me as you are in me.
